As said by others, make sure you install your programs to something other than /program files/ if your C: is only going to be 15gigs. Many modern games and programs can take up to 10 gigs or more! Also keep an eye out for programs that won't work if installed off the boot drive.

Great article, I plan to try out many of the tips I learned in my next install!

Good article. A lot of similarities to what i do to my win install.

Media Player Classic and VLC Player are both great. However my favorite nowadays is SMPlayer, especially its time-stretched audio playback. You can play videos faster without distorting sound (no chipmunk effect). The shortcuts are better too.

I read the article. Awesome read, I have never thought to install windows in this fashion, or rather I have but it was a slightly bit different as I have two physical hard drives.

What I did was install windows onto the C:\ drive. Install all the necessary drivers and what I deemed to be necessary programs onto the C:\ drive. Then music, program files, and page files all went to the D:\ drive.

Did all my configurations to the Windows before I went about mucking the registry up. I also used JKDefrag and defrag my PC about 3 times sorting from smallest files first to largest files last. This was to further optimize the image I was about to make of the C:\ drive.

After all the optimizations and customizations (without installing unnecessary programs) I imaged my machine to a third HDD. I thought about imaging my PC to DVD's which wouldn't be a bad choice as it would only require 3 - 4 DVD's.

@thenetzguruz - You ought to learn the art of save often and stay organized. By the time I realize my UPS Battery fails, he, my PC shuts down as the word you describe fails means to completely die. Now however when my UPS starts squealing (Does it about once a month, I think my battery is dying) I know that I have roughly 20 minutes to save and shut down. That is ample time for me to save and get ready to shut down. I am on a Quad Core machine and boot times may be slow but if you can't stand 10 seconds or so of your life wasted waiting for a boot, then you are impatient and need to learn to do something else while something is loading. Like take me for instance, I have my acoustic guitar next to my PC and when ever something is loading that takes a while I grab it and start strumming.

Nice article but I would like to point out that Hibernate can also be useful for desktop users, at least for me its very useful and i use it everyday, here are the reasons:

- boot process take time (< 1min but still).
- think of a situation when you don't have any charge left in UPS battery and you have to shut down computer fast, its a rare case but can be a life saver.
- you can simply hibernate and resume work anytime without thinking for hours where you were before!
