How to Download your windows Updates manually

There are some exclusive windows updates which are not available via automatic updates. Most of the people use Microsoft Download Center to download their normal updates and “Microsoft update catalog” basically allows you to download the updates that you can only find in the update section. They also include Hotfixes, Security Updates, Drivers, etc.

So what you need is the exclusive windows updates. Make a note that the updates that you find at the microsoft download center doesn’t appear through this since they can be already manually downloaded.

What you need is Internet Explorer 6+ because it’s not compatible with other browsers like Firefox, Opera, Flock etc and Windows Version 2000+.

Steps:

Open your internet explorer and type / copy-paste in the following link

http://test.catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx

Or

http://test.catalog.update.microsoft.com/

“What it does is, detect your system automatically.” And you’ll see a search bar.

Type in what updates you want, like Windows Vista etc. The catalog will show you the results with all the updates that you are missing.

Click on “Add” on the right side to add the updates that you want to download. You’ll see a shopping basket on top right which will add up the numbers of the updates that you have chosen.

After you’ve chosen the updates that you want to download, click on the basket and you’ll see a download button on the same side.

Click Download and a new window will appear where you can download those files to a specified folder.

And you’re done. Happy Updating.

Thanks for your very clear instructions. Recently my vista machine decided that it couldn’t check for updates. The only way I could get around this was to reinstall windows (that is repair it) but this was a long, involved and often treacherous endeavour. Manual updating is not easy to find on the windows site, so again, thanks for this.

I’m failing when trying to access the Microsoft Update Catalog with 8DDD0020 here as well. It briefly flashes to the Home page then immediately goes into the error page.

I tried to remove Error.aspx? and its follow-on text from the URL and F5, and that didn’t help.

    Still didn’t work?

What do I do with those downloaded update files? Do I put them into some folder or extract them or what?
