How to uninstall Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 [Guide]

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 is going through a hype and almost everyone is downloading it to check it out. Since it’s in beta and bugs / errors are bound to show, people are reporting errors like display problems with elements, problems with the Share this plugin on website which is resulting in locking internet explorer 8 completely and increase the memory use.

These bugs are making people uninstall internet explorer beta 8 and go back to whatever they were using before. Ghacks has provided a great guide on how to uninstall Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.

Note: Some Windows XP users might not be able to uninstall Internet Explorer 8. This happens to the users who installed a previous version of Internet Explorer 8 and later on the Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. A warning is issued to those users during installation of Internet Explorer 8 that the installation will become permanent. They might still be able to use System Restore to downgrade again if a System Restore point is available that dates back prior to the installation of Internet Explorer 8.

I got a automatic update Saturday and since then I can not open internet explorer with out constant errors and avi anti virus is showing errors of cannot be written so i had to uninstall my antivirus not like it was important. When I tried to uninstall IE 8 to go back to IE 7 i get errors and blue screen errors when i try to start in safe mode. No more betas for me. I have a HP computer and this reminds me of the problem with a update a few months ago with service pack 3. If I did not have firefox I’d really be upset for internet explorer is unusable and hard to get windows updates without it. Hope there a hotfix soon and Mircosoft should allow firefox to download windows updates since IE always has problems for me.

For some reason the IE 8 beta wont let me uninstall it even though i didn’t get the message that says that it will become permanent. is there any way i can still uninstall it, and what would be the repercussions of doing so?

    I’m running Vista Business.

In Program/Features/uninstall update – There is not IE8 to uninstall
There is no Directory IE8 in Windows Directory
There is no uninstall file anywhere for IE8 on my machine
When I search for anything IE8 on my drive nothing is returned.

IE8 Beta 2 is install though how on earth do I get rid of it ?

I’m fully satisfied with Mark’s comment. I also tried to find out the uninstall file in the windows dir., program files, installed updates list but I could not find it. Isn’t there any way to uninstall the IE 8 beta 2?

  7. Miguel Angel says:

This is, of course, the usual way it should be…simple uninstallation of IE 8 beta, but it´s useless , just before finishing uninstall , there´s a message asking you for some files (spuninst) that they are missing in your system… In my pc , ie8 is not running , and i can´t get rid of it ,i´ve tried a lot of suggested ways to remove IE 8 beta , none of them worked … Some said u better ignore it and load Firefox as the new browser ….Is there a confirmed and reliable way to remove ie 8 beta from Win XP , service pack 2?

If IE8 isn’t listed on windows updates, use this method:

    1. Carefully select and then copy the following command:
    %windir%\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe
    2. Click Start, click Run, type cmd.exe, and then press ENTER.
    3. Right-click inside the cmd.exe window, and then click Paste to paste the command that you copied in step 1.
    4. Press ENTER to uninstall Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2. When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer.

Verify that your earlier version of Internet Explorer was restored.

if none does work, download vlite for vista or xplite for xp,and install. it’s good software for deleting windows components or features.since IE isn’t a program on windows, that’s the better way to remove this crap from ur pc.IE puts vulnerabilities on windows activex controls and programs so ur pc gets attacked by virus so easily.
but IE is needed for microsoft and microsoft related website browsing.but there’s many Firefox addons u can use so IE isn’t necessarily needed.

I did everything that I could read on the subject of removing IE V8.xx Beta and nothing worked. Also I play Bridge on POGO and the beta version of IE was not compatible with JAVA’s latest version for games!

I researched many programs until I finally found “REVO UNINSTALLER” It is a free program and will clear out everything you want it to, including all the old strings and clearng the registry. “SAFELY”!

I highly recommend it, it also has lots of other utilities embedded in the program ie: Windows cleaner etc.

    Try it you’ll like it.

  11. MoiN says:

Agree with Brian on Revo part!

You might receive the following message when you run this Fix it:

A Service Pack or Windows Update is blocking the “Fix it” from uninstalling Internet Explorer 8.

This occurs if Internet Explorer 8 is set as not removable. This can occur if you install Internet Explorer 8 before you install Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows XP. If this scenario applies to you, then you must uninstall SP3 before you can uninstall Internet Explorer 8. How do I recover all the files that were deleted by a tech in India. She said she was just deleting unused and old files. All my problems with Explorer 8 was because I did not have enough room in my computer. We have only used 12% of our memory! Now we have no pictures, no music, no Sierra, some of the Norton files, multiple HP files, trusted domains ( our mail is going to either Spam or OLD mail even if not read. I was having NO problems oon my computer when I got the “URGENT UPDATE” from windows. I downloaded it, Explorer 8.0 and nothing has been the same since. Now the computer works, but we cannot get to anything we want to work on. I can be very clear not to worry this is being taken care of. Will be good, no worries someone will call you tomorrow. IT EVEN REMOVED ALL MY TOOLBARS it is sending me to yahoo, it wants to make MSN my homepage……I knew there was a reason I never wanted to get a computer. But don’t worry, they will be fixing it soon ! All I want is my Java, my AOL (yes, I am computer illiterate) a cup of coffee and a little fun.
