Google Chrome Updates, Bugs, Issues and Stuff I realized

Google chrome

Google Chrome, the newest browser by google has been launched (as most of you guys know). It’s looking good, no doubt but It’s still not fully functional with all those bugs and issues that even the developers know.

First of all, some of the Known Issues that users have already submitted

- Spreadsheets - When you click in one cell, it sometimes focuses on another cell above it.
- Docs - Comments don’t work as expected
- Calendar - The day is scrolled up to midnight after you edit an event
- Calendar - If you create an all day event between Friday and Sunday, the event will be one day longer than intended.
- Docs - ‘Also editing now’ message redraws multiple times when you scroll
- The English (US) dictionary is installed by default for all languages
- ‘Find in page’ sometimes fails to find entries on very long pages and in editable text areas
- Sometimes your laptop won’t go to sleep when Google Chrome is running
- Error responses from some proxies are truncated
- Google Chrome doesn’t honor the ‘bypass proxies for these addresses’ list in the Windows’ Internet Options control panel
- Performing searches take a long time, and I see “Resolving proxy…” in the lower-left of the window
- When you open an RSS feed or xml file, it only shows the raw XML data

I downloaded Google chrome, opened couple of sites and then went to check google adsense, to my surprise I confronted this and upon some investigation I found out that Google Chrome does not support SSL client authentication.

Google adsense

So google adsense is a potentially harmful version of google? and according to Chrome, we should proceed with it! wow! Anyway, some stuff that should be given a small thought.

Rumor is, Google Removed all the referrals elements from Adsense last month and their main referral was Mozilla FireFox! and now suddenly, we are looking at Google Chrome? This comes to a question, is this going to affect Google’s relationship with firefox? Are they still going to fund Mozilla?

Answer is, no! This won’t affect google’s relationship with firefox that much. Why? because Last week, Google renewed a royalty deal with Mozilla, which will run through November 2011, providing the open-source organization with a new three-year lifeline. According to a amazing article by TGDaily

“Funding Mozilla remains the cheapest strategy for Google to control the Internet Explorer’s influence and market share, however, a Google web browser adds a variable to that equation that may change the outcome of the Mozilla relationship when the agreement expires in three years, especially if Chrome can capture market share quickly.

Google isn’t Mozilla’s only income source, but there is no denying that Mozilla would not be what it is today and Firefox would not look like as it does today. According to Mozilla’s most recently published tax statements (fiscal year 2006 ended December 31, 2006) reveals that Mozilla had sales of $67 million at the time, $57 million of which came from Google, because of Firefox’ use of Google as default home page and revenues from ad placements.

For now, it is business as usual and we are sure that Mozilla and market watchers will have a close eye on how Google will be leveraging its countless business relationships to push its Chrome browser. Besides the fact that it has a search market share of more than 60% in the U.S., its software is included by default on many new PCs, it has partnerships with industry giants such as MySpace and Ebay, it owns YouTube, it works on integration its software in gas station pumps there is a mobile search deal with Verizon in the works and the company is apparently interested in acquiring Digg.”

Update: Google tweaks Chrome licence text

Google has rescinded an article of the user agreement for its new browser, Chrome , released on Tuesday. The initial agreement claimed rights over “any Content which you submit, post or display on or through” the browser. Google reworded the agreement on Wednesday, leaving those rights in the hands of Chrome’s users. A spokesperson for Google said its user agreements were re-used and the initial claim was an oversight. (Read more @ BBC)

- How to check for Google Chrome Updates:

1. Click the Tools menu
2. Select About Google Chrome.
3. At the bottom of the window, it will check for updates.

That’s it for now but I’ll surely update this post as I face more bugs and errors. Though, I would love to hear what you have to say about Google Chrome.

Chrome did not import most of my favorites and will not import them if I use the “import bookmarks” function. If I cannot import my favorites I’ll stay withy IE until I can.

I can’t scroll upwards on my laptop with google Chrome^^
There is no problem scrolling downwards, but upwards nothing is doing;) Google must do a lot of work to get the browser to a final and working base… i still will surf with Firefox.

I also cannot scroll upwards when using the touch pad on my laptop.

I have found more bugs in google Chrome which I will be posting / updating this post in a while. I do appreciate what you guys are confronting and hopefully, Google Chrome developers might notice us and work on this.

Since, we are the real beta testers :)

So did you try opening the https://google.com/adsense in any other browser? Right…

Comment by MoiN on September 3, 2008 @ 9:20 pm

Yes, Anonymous. It works fine in firefox etc

Comment by Anonymous Bastard on September 3, 2008 @ 10:45 pm

Then you should check the security settings of your Firefox. Chrome is absolutely right to throw a warning regarding the erroneous certificate. A certificate for ‘www.google.com’ cannot identify ‘google.com’

Every browser on my machine throws a warning.

Here’s a good one! I cannot log into iGoogle using Chrome. I have no problem with IE or Maxthon browsers but Chrome will not let me even see the sign-in area. it truncates the content on the page. I have been having trouble with some other https sites as well.

Comment by jeremiah on September 4, 2008 @ 2:39 am

I am using vista, installed chrome and if I click in the url bar area it crashes.

This thing is a bloody joke.

Comment by umair malik on September 4, 2008 @ 4:50 am

I’ve come across two:

-The one with the scroll bar (already mentioned).

-Does not maximize properly on vertically oriented monitors (bottom of window does not reach bottom of screen, right side of window goes off-screen)

worst thing is, i cant do most stuff on facebook! tried to comment on a “status” and it didnt work. tried to tag someone, didnt work

Comment by steventrouble on September 4, 2008 @ 10:19 am

Chrome does not allow php websites to redirect to the same page. For example if I was on test.php and I clicked a link that took me to test.php?hello=there, the link would not work and the page would remain static. Also, some advanced formatting toolbars on PBWiki and elsewhere do not load at all. Otherwise great browser.

Comment by errick on September 4, 2008 @ 2:01 pm

when I press on the mail icon in windows live messenger window, the browser does not open up to the inbox. in fact, nothing happens. another bug is with some live TV streaming channels, the webpages are not displayed properly. Can’t play the streams

Comment by sean on September 4, 2008 @ 5:03 pm

i didnt find anything wrong in chrome, i love this browser

Comment by Wasyl on September 4, 2008 @ 5:16 pm

It’s haveing problems with proxy autoconfiguration (in my company at least)

seems to become un-detectably heavy when used with pandora, after about an hour my computer begins to delay mouse and keyboard interaction off and on in 1 second intervals.(has happened to me on two very different computers)

It does not play flash games as well.

I cannot log into hotmail, but i think its hotmails fault.

Is it only available for xp and vista? what about mac?

I really look forward to Chrome’s bugs being worked out, I agree with many of the concepts.

I cant get any of the google login pages. bottomline: I cant use any google apps in Chrome.. you need a better joke?

Comment by Jaymz on September 5, 2008 @ 8:58 am

Mostly an excellent browser, so much faster! I have had an issue with http://www.logmein.com in the way when you connect to a remote computer it treats the remote control window as a picture which isn’t ideal but it is just a plug-in issue which will be sorted before the release.

I have the scroll-up bug on a Sony Vaio RB-30 desktop using a Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical USB. It pretty much makes the browser useless.

I wish it ran on Windows 2000.

Comment by wcf on September 6, 2008 @ 12:23 am

There is an easy fix available for the scroll-up bug, and it worked for me. Go to the Control Panel, open Mouse Properties, click the Wheel tab, and use the Troubleshooter button.

It will prompt you to open the program that’s having the problem, and then select it from a list. That’s all you have to do.

Google’s approach to almost everything…Simple… has worked well in this browser. There is no need for bloated toolbars that go mostly unused in IEx. Google has created a very simple yet powerful application for the web. All the options you need are in the tools section. It will interact with almost any app you choose. have not experienced any of the known bugs. browser is stable on Vista x64 running 4GB RAM and Intel quad core extreme processor.

Has anyone else had trouble watching YouTube vids on Chrome?

Comment by Brian Davis on September 14, 2008 @ 3:55 am

“Has anyone else had trouble watching YouTube vids on Chrome?”

Sally:

yes i have read that several people have..
I tried viewing one (although i would rarely do so normally)
It worked for me, but perhaps after a longer period it may have been troublesome.

Comment by Paulus on September 19, 2008 @ 7:48 pm

For anyone who wishes to fix the “not being able to scroll up using certain mouse pads” issue, I have released a patcher. You can download it here:
http://users.ecs.soton.ac.uk/pjt2v07/chrome/

Just run chrome_patch.exe. It will patch chrome.dll to fix the issue.

Comment by Brian Davis on September 19, 2008 @ 8:10 pm

not a bug fix related to me, but Yay for progress!
thanks Paulus.

can’t wait ’till chrome is stable.

It looks like Chrome has trouble viewing videos using Adobe Shockwave (on Hulu). Every time I mouse over a Hulu video it hangs for a few seconds before resuming again.

Hi.. i got to know that… if i clear browser date for chrome while gmail or yahoo mails are signed in, these applications are signing off after completion of cleaning browser data….

Comment by Erik on October 5, 2008 @ 2:26 am

I must say I’m pretty impressed myself, this browser has big ambitions. Sure, the scrolling bug might make me insane, so I’ll stick to Firefox for the time being, but itf this turns out as good as it looks I’ll convert.

i installed google chrome and found that any links in windows live mail only opened google chrome home page. it would not go to the link. so i removed google chrome. now any link, including live mail ‘help’ or ‘get technical support’ comes up with an error ‘Application not found’

Comment by Gerard on October 16, 2008 @ 7:26 pm

when i use the chrome i was amaze with the fast loading. but the problem is usually i crash when open multiple or so many tabs… so i uninstall it.. then after that there is a TELNET.exe and NOTEPAD.exe alway run on my TASK MANAGER.. i guess when you uninstall it the chrome leaves virus?

Comment by David B on October 21, 2008 @ 8:52 am

I am having the problem of not being able to scroll up. I tried the EASY FIX of an earlier comment and there is no troubleshoot button on my Vista computer. I hate bugs and I hate Windows!!

Comment by David B on October 21, 2008 @ 8:57 am

Chrome is also VERY slow. The slowest browser I have ever used!! I’m not using a browser that is so flawed and slow and can’t scroll up like this one. Go back to search Google and quit trying to do everything in the tech industry. And check out the new Google phone. The one that looks like a brick from 1990. Its like a Zach Morris phone(Saved by the Bell). I don’t even like Google’s search. Their website is SO boring. I use Yahoo. I will continue to google on yahoo from now on.

I would switch to Chrome at my workplace except for a major bug (for our work model). We maintain shared working call logs in Google worksheets. On a daily basis we copy those sheets to a “permanent” Excel worksheet. Alas, when one pastes multiple cells from a Google spreadsheet into Excel, all the data merges into a single cell.

I have an internet banking site that when I try to submit a transaction it is seeming to hit the cancel on the following confirmation page.

The only scrolling issue I have found is if I click on the scroll wheel on my mouse I don’t get the free-panning arrows on the screen like I get with IE and Firefox

Otherwise it looks good and seems to work OK

Here is the fix for your problem. 1. go to control panel 2. click on add or remove 3. choose google chrome 4.click on remove. Your done! all your problems are fixed! It should be called google crap! Staying with firefox is your best bet and whats with chrome! are we in a 70’s disco? sounds a little queenish to me…

Auto contacts pop-up is not coming while composing a new mail in yahoo through chrome…

Comment by Len Nerenburg on June 11, 2009 @ 5:57 pm

The display of some screens in my linksys router software has &nbsp preceding the field (I am familiar with what this is). IE 8 shows the screen normally. I have screen shots and would like to submit this bug but cannot find where to do this.
In chrome the display has:
Mode &nbspMixed
in IE8 it shows
Mode Mixed
it does this for several fields and &nbsp is in the source but should not be displaying.
