Improve your Skype sound quality easily
I use Skype everyday at my job and we have to do voice chats as a medium of small meetings or conferences. We do have high speed internet installed but sometimes the sound quality goes down and there’s nothing that we can do about it. Martin at Ghacks provided a simple solution on how to improve your Skype sound quality in these easy steps.

All you have to do is this!
- Close Skype
- Find the file, “Shared.xml” in Documents and Settings \Username\Application Data\Skype folder
- Delete it
- Restart Skype
And you’re done! Shared.xml file basically consist of host cache information which is normally a list of Skype super-nodes and host pairs that are needed to run Skype properly. Sometimes the info stored in this file isn’t optimal for the internet connection, which will degrade voice quality.

Confirmed! Great tip here – thanks for sharing. I tried both a call across town, and across the globe, and in both instances I found no drops, and much less lag and virtually no static.
