6 Flash Based Retro Games that Bring Good Old Memories Back
I have always been a huge fan of retro games. I remember playing Rygar, Street Fighter, PacMan and what not on those old machines. Though, it’s the era of the extreme graphics and mind blowing games but still, I miss the old days. Here, I’ve complied a list of 6 retro games (Flash based) which were some of my favorites.
Street Fighter is a classic arcade fighting game and one of the first and most popular of it’s kind. This online flash version is a remake of the nostalgic classic and is its equal in many ways. From the sound effects, in-game music to the appearance and character and the sprite animation, it is a modern technology copcat of the 1980′s original – sans the coin slot.

After it loads, players may choose from the menu options: single player, two player, training, options and key configuration. After making the necessary adjustments to the control keys and choosing a playing mode and player, the fight may begin.
2- Prince of Persia (Special Edition)
Prince of Persia special edition is a promotional flash game remake of the original 1989 classic by Broderbund developed primarily for the Apple II series of computers and MS-DOS PCs and later ported to several other platforms over the next decade due to the title’s immense popularity.

While the flash version mimics the original quiet well, the sound effects leave much to be desired. Of low quality Web encoding, the sound effects seem as if they were recorded from the original over a bad microphone with interference. Otherwise, right down to the oft frustrating repetition of falling and jumping and clinging on the dear life over vicious looking spikes in the ground, the developer have a fair idea of the gameplay, as Goldilocks would put it, just right.
As with the previous gameplay is fairly tough and players will find themselves in a race against time to stop the evil vizier and save the princess. Unlike the original however, there is only the one final level in this flash installation.
Yet another Nintendo classic, Contra was one of the earliest two-player collaborative run-n-gun games that became the prelude of the modern third person shooter genre. Once again, gamers of the early 90s can use the keyboard to control Bill Rizer and Lance Bean, the protagonists of the game.
The developers of this flash game have done a splendid job porting the old game into this web-oriented world. The gameplay, the entire feel, atmosphere and rush of adrena;in from fighting hordes of aliens remain the same as that of 20 years ago. What’s more, it seems that the old cheat code which gave those two exterminators extended lives can still be used here.
Mario, one of my favorite retro games used to be a great time killer. Mario’s distinctive red jumpsuit, the flashy colours, the arcade style sound effects are all trademark attributes of any Mario game and the reason Nintendo became such a big hit back in the day.

All the trademark elements, and more, are present in this compilation of web-based games and fan get to revisit and interact with all their favourite Mario Adventures character such as Luigi, princess Peach and other Super Mario and Mario Bros, characters besides, of course, our jovial Italian crimson-clad plumber.
Donkey Kong is a character that was introduced by Nintendo game designer Shigero Miyamoto and included Mario-like character. Donkey Kong is believed to be Mario’s first appearance, and as with Mario, the character Kong became so popular that franchise remained in demand well in the late 1990s and early to mid 2000s. Donkey Kong was the seemingly villainous ape from whom Mario (then known only as Jumper had to rescue a maiden who eventually came to be known as Princess Peach). While the game was a big hit at the time, the gameplay was very simple.

The success of the 3 characters in this game resulted in several spin-off franchises, the most popular of which, to this day, is the sequal to Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong jr., made all the more popular because of Nintendo’s portable Game Boy.
Pac-Man was revolutionary when it was released in 1980s as many of the games that were available then were all some form of space shooters, such as the popular Space Invaders and Asteroids. While there were all derivatives of the early electronic game Pong, PacMan endeavoured to be different. Instead of an object propelling a projectile from it towards another object, Namco introduced the first single screen maze game which had elements of strategy, escape and evade, action.

While the original was a classic and PacMan isn’t quiet PacMan without those elements, it garnered so much popular that the title has a huge cult following, and newer, revamped versions of the title are in high demand.
There are lots of other retro games that I was into and I will be posting about these in the upcoming days and if you think that I should add something worth mentioning, be my guest and post it in the comment box and I’ll work on it for sure!
