Disclosed Vulnerability Issue In Windows XP and Windows Server 2003

According to a flaw reported by a Google security researcher, there has been an vulnerability issue which is affecting windows xp and windows server 2003. Microsoft didn’t knew about the issue before it was made public couple of days back.

Arstechnia also gave details on this

“In Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, clicking on an hcp:// link launches helpctr.exe via a registered protocol handler; this is normally a safe way to launch help content thanks to an allow list that Help and Support Center checks before navigating to a given help page.”

Though, good news is, Microsoft found out the problem, accordingly

“We have initiated our emergency response process and will continue to monitor the threat landscape for any signs of attack against this issue. Our Microsoft Active Protections Program (MAPP) partners have detailed information about this vulnerability and are developing protections where possible.”

windows users can now follow a recently released Security Advisery 2219475 to get rid of this issue.
