Easily attach files to new messages in Gmail

Posted by MoiN 8 July, 2008 (0) Comment

If you are looking to easily attach files to new messages in Gmail or Google Apps Mail through your desktop then take a look at gAttach. It comes with all the features available in Windows that were once only available to your outlook express etc. It’s easy to use, when you choose the file the upload, it will start your browser, create a new email and attach the file & put it in a draft which you can easily open, write and send.

With gAttach, you can

- send emails directly from:

* Windows Explorer
* Microsoft Office
* Adobe Acrobat
* Windows Live Photo Gallery
* Internet Explorer
* Mozilla Firefox

* .. and many more

- automatically attach files from your PC to a new email without manually uploading each file;
- choose to suppress the annoying standard text provided by Windows (”Your attachments are ready to send..”);
- handle “mailto” email links in web pages.

New version of Gmail soon!

Posted by MoiN 15 February, 2008 (0) Comment

Gmail

New version of Gmail is coming soon and it will be available in 37 languages. According to Robby Stein, Associate Product Marketing Manager they are starting a new version of Gmail in 37 languages. The new version of gmail will have an entirely new code base, which allows us to add new features more rapidly and share components with other Google applications (we now use the same rich text editor as Groups and Page Creator, and the contact manager can be seen in several Google apps). So if you were using English, you can now change your default language from the Settings menu to take advantage of a bunch of features that have recently launched in your preferred language, including:

* Colored labels
* Group chat
* Rich emoticons
* A new contact manager with a three-pane layout
* A number of smaller features, such as new shortcut keys and the ability to bookmark individual emails with your browser

It may disrupt some third-party Gmail extensions — unsupported scripts that directly modify Gmail’s code. Anyway, the newest version of Gmail is not yet available for Croatian, Icelandic, Hebrew or Arabic, but you can continue using the older version in these languages. The newest version also is not yet available for Google Apps for your domain.

How to Add Emoticons in a Gmail message.

UserScripts
While I was searching for a easy way to insert Gmail Emoticons in my emails, I came across UserScripts. They have a small script which is available for download/install by which you can add an “Emoticons” link next to “Check Spelling” in the Gmail Compose Window, which opens up a new/small window with lots of emoticons to choose from.The current pack they have is like thisGmail Emoticons

How to Add the script?

The easiest way to just drag from the emoticon window into your compose-box. Be careful with this method, because if you drop the emoticon OUTSIDE the compose box, your PAGE WILL CHANGE. Hopefully Gmail’s autosave will save you if that happens. So drop with care.

Second way of doing this is, open up the emoticon window, select the icon you want, Press CTRL+C or right click, select copy and paste it in your gmail message by either pressing CTRL+V or right clicking and selecting paste.
