How to Jailbreak your iPhone 3G using Windows
Users at Whirlpool forums have figured out and released a step by step guide on how to jailbreak your iPhone 3G using Windows, they have tested this on windows Vista and it should work fine on Windows XP as well.
Note: Before doing this, please remember that there is a risk involved so before you do any hacking, it’s recommended that you backup your iPhone immediately.
Step 1: You need to download two files: x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw and iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Custom_Restore.ipsw.
Step 2: Make sure you have iTunes 7.7 installed.
For Vista: Click Start then copy this into the search box and press enter after:
For XP: Click start then run, then copy this into the run box:
%appdata%\Apple Computer\iTunes
Step 3: Make a directory called: Device Support. If the directory already exists, clear it.
Step 4: Copy x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw into the Device Support folder you just created.
Step 5: You need to get your device into DFU mode. You can follow these steps to achieve this:
* Connect your iPhone to your computer.
* Turn iPhone off.
* Hold power and home together for 10 seconds (exactly).
* Release power but keep holding home until the computers beeps (observed on a PC) as a USB device is recognized.
* At no point will the display come on. Now your restore should work.
Step 6: Once your phone is in DFU mode and detected by iTunes (should be black screen on phone NOT iTunes logo with USB cable), click on iPhone in iTunes, then hold the SHIFT key and click on restore.
Step 7: Browse to the folder where you downloaded iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Custom_Restore.ipsw and select it. iTunes will then extract the file and you will see the iPhone Dev Team’s pineapple logo pop up after a few seconds. Refer to the image below:
Step 8: When restoring has completed, it will ask you to connect to iTunes, then re-do the activation process (download carrier settings).

Step 1:
Uninstall iTunes 7.7 if you have it and restart your computer
Step 2:
Install iTunes 7.5, iLiberty+ & KiPhone. Make sure only iTunes is running.
Step 3:
Your iPhone should be in 2 states, either stuck on the “Slide to make emergency calls” screen, or you tried to restore before and it’s stuck on the new look “connect to iTunes” screen. Either way, it’s fine.
Enter the phone in DFU mode (You must have the iPhone connected to the computer and iTunes running). To do this, hold the power & the home button down for 9 seconds.
Why 9? Well people say 10, but it depends how slow you are at counting. Too short and it doesn’t work, too long and the apple logo appears.
When you hit about 6/7 the screen should turn off, leave it for 2 more seconds and release the power button, STILL holding the home button. If all went well, you should NOT see an apple logo, the screen should be dead. Keep holding home until windows/Mac informs you that it’s found new hardware, OR iTunes tells you that your iPhone is in recovery mode. Remember, screen should be blank.
If you see an apple logo, repeat the process for less time until you get it right. Took me a little time.
