Disable wordpress registrations - Another Wordpress Tip

Posted by MoiN 19 June, 2008 (0) Comment

Alright, couple of hours back, there was some strange activity going on this blog. There were 3 Spam Posts (I’m not sure how many confronted that) but as soon I saw them, I checked out the users and saw a anonymous person registered there who posted all that crap.

It did happen to me in the start but I didn’t pay any heave towards it. Anyway, that’s that.. I disabled wordpress registrations instantly and I would advice you guys (Wordpress bloggers) to do the same because I actually know a lot who haven’t disabled the registrations.

How to disable wordpress registrations:

Disable wordpress new users registrations is very easy.

See how popular are your blog posts!

AlexKing

Ever wondered how many people read a particular post? (keeping in mind the traffic) Well, there is a wordpress plugin by AlexKing that does the job. What it does is, keeps track of activity on your blog and calculates a popularity percentage for each post and page.

Since page view counts, etc. are cumulative, newer posts will generally have lower popularity values than older posts. This, of course, evens out over time.

The values for different events (page views, feed views, comments, etc.) are configurable on a per-site basis, so each site may rank their content differently.

The Popularity Contest plugin is available on my WordPress Pluginspage.

Wordpress Space increase from 50 mb to 3GB

Posted by MoiN 23 January, 2008 (0) Comment

Wordpress

Wow, this is a really good news. Wordpress finally improvising google’s strategy, that’s great, really great! After the 60x increase the bloggers dependent on wordpress servers must be in relief now.

According to wordpress official announcement.

Our nearest competitor, Typepad, you’d pay at least $300 a year. Blogger only gives you 1GB. We’re doing the same thing for free.

Our hope is that much in the same way Gmail transformed the way people think about email, we’ll give people the freedom to blog rich media without having to worry about how many kilobytes are left in their upload space.

How are we able to do this? Over the past year we’ve developed our file infrastructure, replication, backup, caching, and S3-backed storage to the point where we don’t feel like we need to artificially limit what you folks are able to upload just to keep up with growth. We’re ready for you.

What about the space upgrades? They’re still important. You still need a space upgrade to upload certain file types, like movies, and we’re also increasing the limits of the paid upgrades, so if you bought a 1GB upgrade before it now adds 5GB for no additional charge.
